Benefit Options Wellness contracts to provide educational seminars and health management series for employees as part of their BeWell Benefit.

Below is a list of classes we are proud to offer during the first quarter of 2012.  1-hour educational seminars titles will be determined based on vendor availability.

HEALTH MANAGEMENT SERIES

Weight Management Series


Benefit Options Wellness contracts with Kronos Optimal Health to provide a 12-week Weight Management series for people who want to develop healthier habits and manage their weight.  Developed by physicians, nutritionists, psychologist and exercise physiologists the series is based on an honest approach to weight management.  The program does not rely on fad diets or lose-weight-quick methods; it is grounded in practical and medically safe guidelines, which allows for healthy weight loss. Weekly Topics:

The program begins with an explanation of how to create a calorie deficit, a choice of eating plans, tips for improving activity and the importance of setting goals.  As weeks progress participants move deeper into creating a supportive network and developing way to track success.

Cost:

  • Participants will pay $50.00 for the 12 week class and curriculum notebook
  • Fees are payable to ADOA-HITF by check or cash at the first class
  • An ADOA representative will be onsite at the first class to collect fees
  • Benefit Options Wellness will pay the remaining $200.00 fee for all participants who complete at least 10 of the 12 classes

Length:

  • 12 Weeks, 1 class per week
  • Each class is 1 hour

Participation:

  • A minimum of 20 participants is required to schedule this class series

Hypertension/Blood Pressure Management

Benefit Options Wellness contracts with Kronos Optimal Health to provide a 5-week program that helps participants learn how to lower their blood pressure and reduce the risk for heart disease through healthy lifestyle changes.  Geared toward those with pre-hypertension or hypertension, the program provides tools, resources, and instruction for lowering blood pressure so that medications and progression to chronic hypertension can be avoided.  Click here to see scheduled classes.

Is This Class Right for You?:

If you have had your blood pressure tested recently and your levels fall in the following pre-hypertensive or hypertensive levels you may need this class.

  • Pre-Hypertensive – systolic blood pressure 130-139 or diastolic blood pressure 80-89
  • Hypertensive – systolic blood pressure > 139 or diastolic blood pressure >89

Weekly Topics:

Pre-hypertension management begins with an explanation of blood pressure and how both hypertension and pre-hypertension can negatively affect health.  Then the instructor discusses how food choices and physical activity play a large role in helping people lower and maintain healthy blood pressure levels.

  • Week 1:  High Blood Pressure Introduction
  • Week 2:  Healthy Dietary Changes
  • Week 3:  Increase Physical Activity
  • Week 4:  Supermarket Survival and Dining Out
  • Week 5:  Sleep and Stress Management

Cost:

  • Participants will pay $10.00 for the 5-week class and curriculum notebook
  • Fees are payable to ADOA-HITF by check or cash at the first class
  • An ADOA representative will be onsite at the first class to collect fees
  • Benefit Options Wellness will pay the remaining $145.00 fee for all participants who complete 4 out of the 5 classes.

Stress Management Series

Benefit Options Wellness contracts with Kronos Optimal Health to provide a 5-week Stress Management series to help participants learn to “bounce back” from the effects of chronic stress.  The program trains employees to better cope with the pressures they face, on and off the job.  Click here to see scheduled classes.

Weekly Topics:

The program begins with an explanation of what stress is, the effects of stress in addition to a discussion on the health problems that can be caused as a result of chronic stress.  Over the course of 5 weeks, participants are taught effective coping methods, time management skills, positive self-talk, and finally how to practice resiliency with stress.

  • Week 1: Overview of Stress
  • Week 2:  Effectively Responding to Stress
  • Week 3:  Relaxation Techniques
  • Week 4:  Control
  • Week 5:  Challenge

Cost:

  • Participants will pay $10.00 for the 5 week class and curriculum notebook
  • Fees are payable to ADOA-HITF by check or cash at the first class
  • An ADOA representative will be onsite at the first class to collect fees
  • Benefit Options Wellness will pay the remaining $145.00 fee for all participants who complete at least 4 of the 5 classes

Cholesterol Management Series

Benefit Options Wellness contracts with Kronos Optimal Health to provide a 5-week Cholesterol Management series for people who want to develop healthier habits, especially smarter dietary choices, which are proven strategies in preventing or improving high cholesterol.  Led by a trained Kronos Health Educator, learn to become a savvy shopper, watch what you eat, and squeeze more activity into your busy day.  Click here to see scheduled classes.

Weekly Topics:

The program begins with an explanation of cholesterol knowing what your numbers mean, and lifestyle changes that participants can make to improve their cholesterol.  Throughout the 5 weeks, participants will be educated on healthy weight management, choosing the right exercise program, reading food labels, and finally being responsible with your medications.

  • Week 1: Introduction to Cholesterol
  • Week 2:  Making Healthier Food Choices
  • Week 3:  Increasing Physical Activity
  • Week 4:  Supermarket Survival
  • Week 5:  Medications, Herbs, Supplements

Nutrition Management

Benefit Options Wellness contracts with Kronos Optimal Health to provide a 4-week Nutrition Management series which is designed to educate and motivate people to nourish their bodies with healthy, satisfying foods.  Geared toward those who want to develop healthy eating habits that last a lifetime, the program teaches proven nutritional guidelines, healthy portions and practical shopping and cooking tips that make all the difference. Weekly Topics:

The program begins with an in-depth look at carbohydrates, proteins, and fats focusing specifically on why they are important and which foods to choose for optimal health.  Other important topics covered throughout the four weeks include:  healthy dining out, portion sizes, maintaining a healthy weight, goal setting and more.

  • Week 2:  Proteins and Fats (Nourish)
  • Week 3:  Supermarket Survival (Recognize)
  • Week 4:  Smart and Mindful Eating (Strive)

  • Participants will pay $10.00 for the 4 week class and curriculum notebook
  • Fees are payable to ADOA-HITF by check or cash at the first class

Fitness Management

Benefit Options Wellness contracts with Kronos Optimal Health to provide a 4-week Fitness series to help individuals learn how to increase their physical activity.  For people of all ages and fitness levels, Kronos Fitness teaches proven exercise guidelines, helpful exercise tips, ways to maintain motivation and the importance of choosing activities that will keep you strong and fit for a lifetime. Weekly Topics:

Kronos Fitness starts with an overview of the key components of fitness, the importance of being active, and how to stay motivated and address barriers that may hinder lifelong fitness.  The series then progresses through an in-depth discussion regarding cardiovascular exercise, strength training and ways to maintain a strong metabolism.  The series ends with an honest look at popular exercise myths to leave participants with a full understanding of what will and what will not lead to a lifelong feeling of strong and fit.

  • Week 1: Getting Started (Believe)
  • Week 2:  Cardiovascular Activity (Energize)
  • Week 3:  Improve Your Metabolism Through Strength Training (Thrive)
  • Week 4:  Dispelling Exercise Myths (Recognize)

Cost:

  • Participants will pay $10.00 for the 4 week class and curriculum notebook
  • Fees are payable to ADOA-HITF by check or cash at the first class
  • An ADOA representative will be onsite at the first class to collect fees
  • Benefit Options Wellness will pay the remaining $130.00 fee for all participants who complete at least 3 of the 4 classes

Length:

  • 4 Weeks, 1 class per week
  • Each class is 1 hour

Participation:

  • A minimum of 20 participants is required to schedule this class series

EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS

1-hour educational classes

Benefit Options Wellness contracts and used partnerships to provide 1-hour, lunch and learn seminars for people who want to learn about health-related topics.  During 2012 we will be offering classes about men’s and women’s health, preventive care, and healthy lifestyles.  Specific titles will be determined based on vendor availability.  Click here to see scheduled classes.
